Clairemont Mesa Chic 4BR with Patio and Hot Tub

Nice property but not well prepared for arrival

Pros: Overall, we had a very nice stay at this property. The location is fantastic: the house sits in a very quiet and safe neighborhood, has amazing canyon views from the backyard, and very easy access to HW 5. The house is big and spacious, with plenty of room for everyone to lounge/eat/sleep/work/play. The kitchen is well equipped. The backyard features a ping pong table that our kids enjoyed using. The inside of the house was clean upon arrival, and the hosts were very responsive in resolving questions related to the A/C, and replacing the empty gas tank of the fire pit and some other missing items within one day.

Cons: This would have been a stellar review if not for the problems we faced with the hot tub. TL;DR: Upon arrival the hot tub/water looked dirty but we were assured it was safe to use (it was not). It took 3 days of back and forth to resolve the problem (i.e. dirty or no hot tub use for 3 of the 5 days of our stay). A timeline: Day 1: When we opened the cover, we noticed a musty smell, the water was abnormally green, and there were some brown stains/residue on the sides above the water level. We shared photos with the property management (PM) company, who assured us that this is normal and that the hot tub is clean. Day 2: Being reassured by the PM, some of us used the hot tub, but once the jets were on, it started forming a lot of foam, including brown dirt on top of it. Day 3: A maintenance person showed up unannounced. After checking, he told us that the hot tub is very dirty, the excess foam is due to the dirt, and that we should avoid entering the water (he actually mentioned he'd wash his hands with chlorine after treating it). We mentioned this to the property manager, who said that this is not true, and that we could use it 30 minutes after it was treated (note that the tub would still generate lots of foam after the maintenance, and we had again shared photos with them). While we asked to talk directly to the maintenance person, it never happened. When we contacted the PM via booking messages (the previous communications were by text), we immediately got notified (by text) that they would empty the tub and refill it so that it gets properly cleaned the next day. Day 4: Another person comes, empties the tub, cleans all the brown dirt from the sides/above water level and refills it. Water was finally clean, although we had to wait for the tub to heat up again (it didn't reach optimal temperature that day). Day 5: Finally, we can enjoy the clean hot tub. Unfortunately, this was our last full day at the property.
